History

Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park is a large park located in northeast Austin, Texas, United States. The park is situated on 293 acres of land and offers a wide range of recreational activities, including hiking, biking, fishing, swimming, and picnicking.

The history of the park dates back to the early 1960s when the City of Austin began acquiring land for a new park in the area. The original plan was to create a park that would serve the growing population of northeast Austin and provide outdoor recreational opportunities for residents.

In 1964, the City of Austin purchased 80 acres of land for the park, and additional land was acquired over the next few years. The park was officially named Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park in 1967.

Over the next several decades, the park was developed and expanded to include new amenities and recreational opportunities.
